‘The “end of history” will not come tomorrow.’ is a solo exhibition in 2022 by Wantanee Siripattananuntakul. Continuing from her previous interest in questioning the issue of opportunity and power in accessing economic and social capital, which resulted in shattering the myth about occupational compensation from her exhibition in 2012, to the examination of unfair money flow within the economy in 2015, and the 2018 homeownership rights survey and now analysis of everyday politics through current tax payments.

This work began when the artist reflected upon herself on the amount she had to, directly and indirectly, pay taxes per year. She used statistical methods to diagnose the data-parallel to her painting of what she called “Tax Painting” from the proofs of tax payments in 2019.

The shreds of evidence, almost 300 pieces, are expanded with the tax rate percentage and transformed into paintings as the same amount of the artist’s consumption to expose obscure facts. These paintings show how everyday spending reflects the irregularity of social life and uncover the tragedy of life, which may not stem from lesser possession, but rather the inaccessibility and the inefficiency of opportunity. Hence, this project is not only concerned with tax management but also the quality of life.
