Rirkrit Tiravanija – BAB TALK 25 14January 2020
Bangkok Art Biennale started off their first event of the year at BAB BOX with Thai contemporary artist Rirkrit Tiravanija, recognized as one of the most influential artists of his generation.
Rirkrit Tiravanija is known for going beyond performance to create socially engaged conceptual works that blur the boundaries of art in novel ways and bridge the division between public and private. Whether it’s by offering visitors free curry in Untitled, 1992 or inviting strangers to drop by and drink tea together in a replica of the artist’s home in Apartment 21, 2002, Rirkrit Tiravanija initiates ways to enable the public to be a part of the art-making process.
The session was hosted by Dr. Apinan Poshyananda, the Artistic Director of the Bangkok Art Biennale 2020, at BAB BOX on the 9th of January 2020. Rirkrit discussed his thought process behind some of his influential work around the world. Follow Bangkok Art Biennale for more information about Rirkrit’s new work for this year’s theme ‘Escape Routes’.
