CCA Kitakyushu presents a new work by Ruangsak Anuwatwimon as CCA 2o+ Project. Ruangsak Anuwatwimon(b. 1975) is an artist living and working in Bangkok; often using materials directly gathered and collected from related subjects, such as animals, plants and the progress of science and technology. He discloses the absurdities existing in the relationship between ourselves and the environ-ment, and poses a question to the viewer about the benefits and compensations which the march of civilization demands.

For CCA 2o+ project, Anuwatwimon presents his new work ‘Reincarnations,’ that highlights the extinction of species, such as the death of the world’s last male Northern White Rhino in Africa this year, the Bhutan Glory butterfly in Thailand (considered to be extinct about 4o years ago) and the Japanese Wolf in Japan (last witnessed alive in the early 20th century), based on his long-term research of this subject.

“The extinction of species, which is not a result from the evolution, is telling something crucial not only for that species itself but also for the other species which involved in, coexisted, and took a part in building the specific complex ecosystem of their own.” (•) “I believe in diversity of life as a part of natural phenomena. The multinational researcher team dedicated their time to observe and research some phenomena for years to resolve the ecosystem’s complexity which sometimes, in the eye of ignorance, is irrelevant. I still believe that all creatures are made up for some specific reasons, not a mere coincidence. They have their own specific functions in the natural resource management, like architectural work or engineering project of nature.” “Each human’s background is unique. But 7 billion human population in comparison with soon-to-be-extinct wildlife is hard to tell which one is more important. The definition of human being as “the owner of all being” maybe not enough to guarantee the prosperous future for the whole world.”

CCA 20+ project

CCA Kitakyushu is pleased to announce a new program from June 2018. 20+ will be presenting emerging artists with the opportunity to experiment with new ideas connected to significant challenges in their career. Since its foundation in 1997, CCA has been working closely with artists and practitioners from various fields including architecture and science. One of the main activities has always been the program for young artists, such as Fellowship Program started in 2015. 2o+ stands for the fact that the year 2018 is the 21st year of CCA. 2o+ indicates an exploration of a new perspective to be continued in the ever-changing art world.
