Garden Surrounding (2020) is a video series that captures the subtle shift of natural light from midday to early evening. Over an extended duration, the camera observes quiet changes in an ordinary environment. Chotpanyavisut explores how the intensifying climate and oppressive heat of Bangkok affect daily life, especially during hours when most residents avoid the outdoors. It aims to reflect on the scarcity of accessible public spaces in the city and contemplates the contrasting rhythms of urban life—from the rushed to the slow, from the artificial to the organic.
This video series is currently showing at The Guest House, one of the main facilities of EXPO2025, designed to welcome and host monarchs, presidents, prime ministers, and other distinguished visitors from across the world. The space embodies Japanese values of hospitality and environmental harmony—creating a setting that is both refined and grounded in nature.
