Once Becoming Featuring Som Supaparinya and Wantanee Siripattananuntakul

At Bangkok Art and Culture Centre BACC

Som Supaparinya and Wantanee Siripattananuntakul are participating in the group exhibition Once Becoming: A Visible Presence, which explores the continuity between modern and contemporary art through the practices of women artists. Curated by Kritsada Duchsadeevanich with advisory curator Penwadee Nophaket Manont.

Speeches of the Unheard by Som Supaparinya is a reworking of her 2021 work of the same title. Responding to Thailand’s political situation, the installation reflects on silenced voices and the meaning of expression through an interactive soundscape. As viewers speak into a microphone, their voices are replaced by bird calls sourced from over 2,000 recordings across Thailand, transforming the act of speaking into a provocative and playful chorus.

Bodies of Force under Conditions of Instability by Wantanee Siripattananuntakul is an expanded spatial version of Bodies of Force, developed for the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC). The three-channel video installation follows a coin carried by gravity, wind, and the conditions of different sites in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Placed within an inclined wall structure, the work extends this exploration of instability into the exhibition space, inviting viewers to experience how forces and conditions shape movement, orientation, and control.
