Som Supaparinya awarded the prestigious ‘Silpathorn Awards 2025’

Distinguished Contemporary Artist in Visual Arts

Congratulations to Som Supaparinya on receiving the prestigious ‘Silpathorn Awards 2025’ for Distinguished Contemporary Artist in Visual Arts, as part of the 2025 Silpathorn Award program honoring outstanding contemporary artists

 

Som Supaparinya lives and works in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Studied Painting in Thailand and Media Arts in Germany. Her works encompass a wide variety of mediums such as installation, objects, still and moving images which have produced mainly with a documentarian and experimentarian approach. The works focus on the impact of human activities on other humans and landscape through political, historical, and literary lenses. The changing landscape by various means motivated her practice. Her works are stories on noodles cultures, the change of the riverscapes, cityscapes, routes, electricity generation, resistance sites and banned books.

 

Som’s works have been internationally recognized and showcased at major art events abroad, including the Peabody Essex Museum, USA (2023); reconnecting.earth (02) (Biennale de l’Art et de la Nature Urbaine), Switzerland (2023); and Kestner Gesellschaft, Germany (2025). Her works have also been featured in leading international art festivals in Thailand, such as the Thailand Biennale, Korat (2021), and the Bangkok Art Biennale: Rituals of Care (2024).

 

Earlier this year (2025), Som Supaparinya presented Collapsing Clouds Form Stars, a mini-retrospective exhibition, at Gallery VER.
