The House That Jack Built

The retrospective exhibition by Rirkrit Tiravanija in Pirelli HangarBicocca
“The House That Jack Built” is a retrospective by Rirkrit Tiravanija presented and curated by Lucia Aspesi and Vicente Todolí. The exhibition surveys three decades of the artist’s exploration of spatial and architectural practices. From 26 March to 26 July 2026. At Pirelli HangarBicocca, Milan, Italy

Borrowing its title from the 18th-century nursery rhyme, the show reflects Tiravanija’s interest in authorship and interconnection. Rather than focusing on architecture as a fixed form, he treats buildings as platforms shaped by use and collective presence.

Featuring his largest presentation of architectural works to date—many inspired by modernist figures such as Le Corbusier and Philip Johnson—the exhibition reactivates iconic structures through participation and shifting contexts. Conceived as a dynamic, participatory environment, it invites visitors to become protagonists, emphasizing change, interaction, and shared experience over static display.
