Kata Sangkhae’s work focuses on issues of urbanism, cultural environment and socio-political climates. He is currently a tenured professor at the Faculty of Fine Art, Bangkok University. His recent solo exhibition ‘Our Sunshine’ at Gallery VER is his interpretative connection between people’s fights against suppression in a time of transition. In ‘Companion Hands – Happiness Mudra,’ Kata casts his hands and arms utilizing body language as a means of decoding. The shape of the heart is a symbol meaning both happiness and sorrow. At a beat of the heart, we can embrace birth and death, freedom and dictatorship, bliss and violence.
