Viriya Chotpanyavisut

Biography

Viriya Chotpanyavisut (born 1982, Bangkok; lives and works in Bangkok)

Viriya’s work is motivated by the desire to be “outside”, in contact with other species, and to engage in dialogue with them through images. In the way he arranges his photographs with one another, Viriya questions the relationships connecting all living beings. He interrogates the possibilities of the instant and the ordinary, and whether links can be found in the disparity of his images. His deep attention towards the small things hidden in everyday life and his capacity to capture them through photography are at the heart of his practice. Through this act, he attempts to transform the appearance of obsolete objects by investing them with a certain intimacy, a newfound vitality.
